How to Do Proper erection of scaffolding?

Proper erection of scaffolding ensures safety on construction sites

In civil construction, scaffolding is widely used, equipment that builders install on practically all construction sites, being of great importance not only for allowing and guaranteeing efficiency in the tasks carried out, but also providing safety for workers carrying out work at heights.

As they are tubular structures assembled on a temporary basis, it is extremely important to exercise great caution both during assembly and disassembly and in their use by workers.

Façade scaffolding is one of the most used. Because it is versatile, it can meet the needs of different services in the maintenance and execution of building facades. Despite being a piece of equipment that can be quickly assembled, transported and used, users must take some precautions, which begin with the purchase or rental, through assembly and disassembly.

Within the Regulatory Standard of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, there is a specific item that regulates the use of scaffolding. Among the requirements, we can highlight some that we consider important so that the entire assembly, use and disassembly process complies with legislation and offers total safety to all workers involved.

Some important requirements that must be requested from the manufacturer or lessor:

-The scaffolding must have an assembly project prepared by a legally qualified professional, accompanied by the respective Technical Responsibility Note;

-The manufacturing company must be registered with Regulator and have a legally qualified professional belonging to the employee or corporate body;

-Manufacturers must provide technical instructions through manuals, containing specifications of materials, anchoring positions, assembly and disassembly sequence procedures;

-The scaffolding must have a guardrail, skirting board (including at the heads), along the entire perimeter, except on the side facing the work area;

Have a complete floor covering throughout the equipment, be non-slip, level and securely fixed;

-It must have safe access to the structure, which may be a metal ladder incorporated or attached to the panels, minimum width 0.40 m, uniform distance between steps between 0.25 m and 0.30 m. Also stairs for collective use, mounted internally or externally to the scaffolding structure, with a minimum width of 0.60 m, consisting of a handrail and non-slip steps;

-The uprights and bracing parts of the scaffolding must have their fittings secured using screws, counter pins, clamps or other similar type of fixation, ensuring rigidity and stability of the structure;

Facade scaffolding must be covered externally with a mesh made of material that offers mechanical resistance, preventing objects from falling.

Main precautions when assembling and dismantling scaffolding:

-Assemblers must be qualified through specific training for the type of scaffolding that will be put into operation;

-Assemblers must carry paratrooper-style safety belts with double lanyards and double locks;

-Must carry a badge with identification and qualifications, informing the last occupational medical examination and training;

-The scaffolding structure must be fixed to the construction, through lashings and joints that resist the efforts to which it will be subjected;

-The safety belts of workers on the scaffolding must be attached to a guide cable anchored in the building, regardless of the scaffolding structure, that is, the safety belts must not be fixed to the scaffolding structure. Click Here for Scaffolding Erector Course

Important:

It is mandatory for all workers working on scaffolding to use a parachute safety belt. Furthermore, other preventive measures relating to the use of scaffolding may be described in the company’s environmental programs. These measures must also be observed and implemented during the scaffolding assembly, disassembly and use procedures.
